Errores comunes

quite much, no, porque quite es comparativo, lo correcto es quite as much.

quite more, no, porque igual que antes, quite es comparativo, lo correcto es quite a lot more o quite a bit more. Obviamente con less ocurre igual.

think(ing) in, evitarlo, no es correcta, lo correcto es think(ing) about.

advice is plural: I'm going to give you some advice.

people is plural: People are doing a lot of stupid things nowadays.

fish is plural: You don't want to mess with the big fish.

concentrated es para cosas: this juice is very concentrated.

concentrating es una actividad humana: I don't want to receive phone calls, I'll be concentrating.

Hay que negar siempre al principio: I think I don't ... no, lo correcto es I don't think I ...

trip es un nombre mientras que travel es verbo.

Uso

Between y among

Between se usa: para puntos físicos, coordenadas, lugares, tiempos, cuando es entre algo y otros 2 o al menos una cifra determinada.

  • between you and me
  • between now and next month
  • Andorra is between France and Spain

Among se usa cuando la cantidad es indeterminada.

  • it is good to be among friends
  • wood carving is among my hobbies

Clue y hint

En negativo solo se usa clue: don't have a clue.

En positivo son sinónimos: give a clue|hint

Hint es también un verbo, clue no.

Expressing skepticism

I highly doubt it.

All the evidence suggests otherwise.

I am (really/very) sceptical about that.

I have (big) doubts about that.
