Los pasos que a mi me funcionaron:<br />

# asegurarse de que el <code>sancho.desktop</code> incluye el <code>%U</code> en la linea de <code>Exec</code> y la linea de <code>MimeType</code> (ver ejemplo abajo)<br />
# ejecutar <code>gvfs-mime --set x-scheme-handler/magnet sancho.desktop</code><br />
<br />
Y listo, tanto el <code>xdg-open</code> como el Chrome empezaron a funcionar perfectamente.<br />
